By David Lorenz
There is a kind of tired that doesn’t come from doing too much.
It comes from holding on longer than you need to.
You move through your day.
You take care of what’s in front of you.
You stay responsible.
You keep things steady.
From the outside, it looks like you’re handling life just fine.
But somewhere inside, part of you is still preparing for something that is no longer coming.
A conversation that already happened.
A role that already changed.
A version of life that quietly closed.
Not in obvious ways.
More in the way your body hasn’t fully relaxed yet.
You stay alert.
You stay ready.
You stay organized around pressure that once made sense.
For a while, this can even feel like strength.
You stay sharp.
You keep moving.
You don’t fall apart when things shift.
Until one day you notice the effort feels heavier than it should.
Nothing dramatic.
Just constant.
Like carrying something you forgot you picked up.
I see this often in people who care deeply about what they do.
They don’t stop when circumstances change.
They adapt.
They keep going.
But sometimes they keep carrying too.
Eventually there is a quieter realization.
Nothing in your life is actually asking for this level of tension anymore.
The structure inside just hasn’t caught up yet.
Letting go doesn’t always arrive as a big emotional moment.
Sometimes it shows up as a simple adjustment.
You stop rehearsing the past.
You notice where energy is still being spent out of habit.
You allow yourself to stand in the life that is actually here now.
And when that happens, something shifts.
Breathing feels easier.
Attention settles.
Forward movement becomes more natural again.
Not because everything is suddenly simple.
But because you are no longer carrying what has already ended.
Enjoy your coffee.
